Blesk is a chromatic typeface inspired by vintage book covers and designed for magazines, headlines, theater, animated titles, three-dimensional printing, literary foils, mysteries & other display needs.
Blesk was designed by Ksenya Samarskaya, who asked me to create the sample text for display purposes. It turned out to be some of the most fun I've ever had writing copy. All the puns, oblique references, and weird private sayings in my head finally served a purpose! I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.
40 Days of Dating
My friend Eric Jacobsen put me in touch with a couple of designer friends of his, Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman, who needed help with their new project. The website that would become the world-famous 40 Days of Dating was in dire need of copy editing, and I was happy to be of assistance. Each individual entry was submitted to me around 7 p.m. every day, and had to be ready for publication the next morning. Mostly my work on 40 Days consisted of proofreading and copyediting, but there was also a fair amount of clarification and untangling to be done before the morning. Editing the two daily entries in such a tight turnaround time became, for me, a 40 day experiment all its own.
It was only a few days into the project when it became clear what a success 40 Days of Dating was going to become. Since its launch, the two principals have been appeared on The Today Show have been interviewed by Cosmopolitan magazine, and written about by countless other media outlets. Over 5 million people have visited the site, and the movie rights were acquired by Warner Brothers.
YouthBuild is a nonprofit organization that often works closely with Habitat for Humanity. YouthBuild provides educational and employment opportunities for unemployed young American adults. The YouthBuild program of Roanoke, Virginia contacted Engines Roar, a film production company I’ve worked with in the past, about producing a small documentary piece as well as a thirty second television spot. I worked primarily with William Sellari, the head of Engines Roar.
Together we arrived first at the commercial’s overall tone, its soundtrack and message. I then wrote the script and created the tagline for the spot. For the documentary piece, I developed the questions the interviewers asked the principals, and helped shape the overall narrative of the piece.

STAG is a men’s clothing boutique with a superior, carefully-edited selection of apparel, accessories, apothecary items, books, and one-of-a-kind vintage items. STAG has just opened its second location, in California, and has been named one of the best menswear stores in America by both GQ and Esquire magazines.
I work alongside ownership, marketing specialists, graphic designers, and web developers to create a strong social presence and an outward voice that serves as an online manifestation of a a company fast becoming one of the great American independent retailers.

Fresa’s is a remarkable study in the concept of delivering slow food fast. They hired me to provide copywriting services for them on a freelance basis. I met with the team, which includes world-famous chef Rene Ortiz and the legendary Margaret Vera, and after a series of interviews created the copy for an internal publication delivered to potential investors. It was honor to work with the talented people involved, and I was overjoyed when the project was fully funded.

Launderette & Larder
The Launderette & Larder is a new dining and retail concept opening in East Austin in late 2014. The Launderette & Larder is brought to you by the same creative and culinary team behind Fresa’s. I wrote the copy for this venture’s investment packet, and it was fully funded shortly thereafter.
